ASICS Metaspeed Sky Tokyo review: the best race shoe ever, literally ever
I race once in each pair, then run workouts in them to 200 miles. Why Sky over Edge, why it beat the Alphafly, and why I take a race shoe to the track.
ReadMy rotation, shoe by shoe, and what each one is for.

I race once in each pair, then run workouts in them to 200 miles. Why Sky over Edge, why it beat the Alphafly, and why I take a race shoe to the track.
ReadI pre-ordered the Megablast because they promised soft. Soft, responsive, light, breathable like a race shoe, on my feet for almost every run. White one, 7 times.
ReadNothing like the 2. Softer, more stable, like an upgraded Gel-Nimbus. I love it in theory. The outer forefoot rolls my foot outward and it sent me for an MRI in June.
ReadI trained in the Metaspeed, then put the Alphafly on for the first time on Berlin race morning. Fast, no bounce. Once you've raced in the Metaspeed you can't go back.
ReadWay firmer than the Superblast 3 and the Gel-Nimbus, no plate, a huge rocker, and it barely bends. I absolutely love this shoe and I still have a pair in rotation.
ReadI bought the first Glycerin Max on pre-release and was so excited. It is so heavy. I wore it 10 miles, gave up, and gave it to my mom's friend as a walking shoe.
ReadI ran 200 to 300 miles in the Invincible. It felt cheap, the foam felt crappy, and there was nothing special about it. The ASICS are just better made.
ReadThe 1080 is comfortable. But the heel felt too low and there's no forward rocker, and coming from the Gel-Nimbus that's the whole thing. The Nimbus won.
ReadThe plated New Balance made me feel faster. I still gave them away. The foam isn't soft or bouncy, same as the Alphafly, and the Metaspeed ruined me for both.
ReadMy go-to until the Megablast came out. Soft, thick heel, strong rocker, not light and it doesn't matter. I haven't worn it in a year and I still recommend it.
