I bought these on pre-release. I was so excited about them. This is the first version, the one everyone was hyped about, and I want to be fair: it looks great, the white and pink is cute, the stack is enormous.

They were just so heavy. They’re awful. They’re the worst.

Ten miles

I wore them about 10 miles and then I gave up on them. They’re the only shoe in my entire rotation that I didn’t wear to completion, and I wear everything to completion, I ran 200 or 300 miles in a shoe I actively disliked. Not these. They went to my mom’s friend as walking shoes, which is probably what they are.

But you love the Gel-Nimbus

I do, and the Nimbus is not a light shoe either. The difference is that the Nimbus has a strong rocker and a thick heel that rolls you forward, so the weight goes somewhere. The Glycerin Max is a lot of foam that just sits under you. Same category on paper. Nothing alike on the road.

Would I buy it again

No. If Brooks fixes the weight in a later version I’d try it, because the idea is right and I like a soft, tall shoe. This one, atrocious.

Questions I get

Is the Brooks Glycerin Max heavy?

Yes. That's the whole problem. I love the Gel-Nimbus, which is not a light shoe, and the Glycerin Max still felt awful. It's the only shoe in my rotation I didn't wear out.

Brooks Glycerin Max or ASICS Gel-Nimbus?

Gel-Nimbus, and it isn't close. Same max-cushion idea, the Nimbus is heavy too, but it has a rocker and a heel that moves you forward. The Glycerin Max just sits there.

How many miles did you run in the Glycerin Max?

About 10. Then I gave them to my mom's friend as walking shoes.
